This past weekend I was in the process of taking off my lower unit (seal leak). Working to get the bottom bolts off of the power trim/tilt, unfortunately 3 bolt heads sheared right off leaving the bolt inside (salwater corrosion im assuming). How do i get the bolts out?

Only thing I can think of is taking the motor off, drill until i can grip the bolt, and torch the outside until i can pull it out.

Any suggestions?

Flying blind. Did the bolts shear off close to the surface?

Ok here is a procedure that should work. You will need a MIG welder and someone to operate it. Take a steel washer of a size that will allow the inside of the washer to be welded to the bad bolt. That will protect the aluminum around the bolt. Take a bolt of suitable size and weld the threaded end to the washer and bad bolt. While it is still hot from the welding use an impact wrench to spin the bad bolt out.
I have used this procedure many times, courtesy of my eldest son who does the welding, and most often it works. Drilling is a pain and not very good. One, you are drilling stainless and two the drill always wanders off.
Let us know how you do.

Ive always had the same problem when drilling into bolts too. I know someone who actually has a welder so ill give it a shot. Thanks again for the great advice and will keep you posted on the results.
