200hp evinrude ficht engines

Im looking at a grady white 26 chase 1999 with a pair of 1999 ficht 200 hps. Is it a rist to buy evinrude ficht engines from 1999? i heard they had some problems. Also any info on the ride stability and quality of this boat would be appreciated.

Yup. They had "some problems", dfloria. Bad ones.<br /><br />Some of them never missed a beat, but too many blew up or caught fire.<br /><br />I would look elsewhere.<br /><br />Good luck.

Not that they didn't have problems also, but wren't most of the early Ficht problems with the 150hp and 175hp?

It was told to me like this, "it is more a matter of when the powerhead is gonna go than if it is". Those motors are the reason OMC is now owned by Bombardier.

Guys -- make no mistake about it, OMC's problems started way way before anybody even thought about direct injected outboards. Spending millions on Orbital technology and then scrapping it to buy out Ficht may have been the straw that sunk their ship but it wasnt the main reason.<br /><br />There are lots of Fichts that had problems but there are lots that run fine. If youre going to buy one, have your dealer run the serial numbers to see what has or hasnt been done. Make sure the updates are all done. If they arent done contact BRP yourself to see what they will or wont do. <br /><br />Good luck!

I bought a 27 ft grady white with 2000 200 fitches knowing about there problems i still bought the boat but got a good deal because the fitches.
I have decided to repower and took the boat off the water because at the end off the day there still fitches. These motors are great when there running but my experiance was there was always somthing, just little stuff but when i would have my two brothers on the boat filled with fuel hundered pownds of ice with bait and knowing big blue fin where hungry off shore the f***g piece off sh****t whould not start. Plan on repowering the boat your looking at I would take the cost of those motors off the asking price.Just my opinion.
