I own a 2000 200HP merc (carb). Intermitantly bogs down upon acceleration. Sometimes stalls completely, sometimes I can save it. Have replaced fuel pump, all filters & lines, fuel tank check valve, as well as done the carburator 1/4 turn enriching as suggested in the shop manual. Engine runs flawlessly at throttle. Good fuel economy as well as plenty of power. I have done everything possible except remove the carbs and have them professionally cleaned by my service dealer. I have spent the last three seasons trying to fix this to no avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Mitch

Re: 200HP Merc Carb. bogs down upon Acceleration

I had similar symptoms until I cleaned the carbs, replaced the inlet seat/needle assemblies, and reset the float levels. This solved my problem. Doing this yourself is not too hard (if you have the shop manual to follow) and it is much cheaper than having someone else do it for you.

Of course, your problem could be caused by something else. One troubleshooting step is to squeeze the bulb on the fuel line during accelleration to see if it has any effect on the bogging down. If it does, then you may have a fuel supply problem, although this seems unlikely as you seem to have already addressed that possibility. Another possiblity, also unlikely, is weak ignition spark at low speed.
