200hp shifting problems

Okay i posted other questions about this problem,I put a new lower unit on my 200hp evinrude,i followed all directions,i can shift the motor manualy and have all gears,as soon as i hook up cables i either have forward neutral or reverse and neutral,no matter how i adjust cables cannot seem to get all gears.Prior to changing lower unit it shifted fine,Im sure i counted the threads as i took off the connector on the shiftshaft.The linkage is straight up and down on motor and as i said it will shift in all gears manualy but not with cable hooked up.Any help would be greatly appreciated.I followed proceedure from manual I borrowed

Found the problem,just in case someone else has same problem,it was the control box,replaced control box and cables,shifts perfect,cables were not the problem,but i replaced them also,with old box it would not let cables extend or retract far enough to put it in gear,no matter how i adjusted them I disconnected cables from control box and manualy shifted into gears with the end of cable by pushing and pulling cables and it worked.I put the cables back on and nothing would work right,new controls and box good to go.Hope this helps anyone else with this problem

what sort of controller didn't have enough throw to shift gears?
was it a generic morse?
or an old evinrude binacle.

that would have been hard to track down over the internet.

I dont have it in front of me,but i will check in morning and post the brand,the unit i put on in order for it to work is a generic,the one i took off came with boat it was a evinrude but not sure of model,like i said i will look in morning and post the brand,i followed instructions per manual did everything could not get the motor to shift with original control box,it shifted by hand and linkage was straight up and down,finally put the used generic on and by chance its working perfectly now,i spent weeks trying to get it to shift correctly,dropped lower unit five times measured shaft ,adjusted cables to no avale ,i even changed cables,then decided to change control box,now its fine

The original control box i took off my 200hp evinrude was a omc,and i put a differant control on to solve shifting problems.Dont know why but the omc doesnt have enough throw to shift gears.maybe something internaly in control box.

sounds like you have bad cables. all OMC boxes have the same throw.

trust me, it is not the cables, there is a few threads going on with this exact fault, search for vahunter, and dwater, theirs was the last one I responded to, the gear shifts properly by hand at the motor, cables can be replaced, but it does not fix the problem.
