we just bought a 2010 Lund Rebel 1625 that is rated for a 40 hp motor but the dealer told us that a 25 would be good enough because the boat only weighs 595 dry. The problem is if you take off in to the wind the boat won't even plane off. I am very dissapointed because I know a 25 2 strke would be strong enough but Mercury doesn't make 2 strokes anymore. We only have 2 hours on this motor. The question is will it get stronger once we get through the 10 hour breakin?

What do you think?

Short answer: No.
Sorry as I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear.
Yeah the boat weighs X-amount.
But did you take into consideration, fuel, life jackets,
oars, your own weight, etc. etc. etc.

As someone once told me a long time ago,
"If it's rated for a 40hp, put a 40 on it."

I understand that with the weight of the gear and our bodies that we would have thought they would have pushed a 40 hp and we would have gone that route. We are very dissapinted and will be calling the dealer on Monday to work out a deal for the 40.

We did end up going back to the dealer (R and R Marine) and they took very good care of us and took the 25hp back and put on a 40hp. We are very happy with the new motor and want to thank you for giving it to us straight.
