I have a 2010 Bryant 210 with a Mercruiser 4.3L MPI and the remote oil filter. (top of engine, port side).

I did actually search the forum before posting this....

Looking for engine oil and filter recommendations, 10W-40 with the EC-W rating.
Hard to believe but my local auto parts stores don't appear to carry any EC-W oils and this is SE Michigan with LOTS of lakes and boaters.

Really surprised Mobil one doesn't have a Marine version of "1". Or I can't find it...

Also.. Quality oil filter? WIX XP #? WIX 51086 or WIX 57099?
Other filter recommendations?
AMSOIL SAE 10W-40 Synthetic Marine Motor Oil? Full synthetic?

Thanks

doesnt merc recommend the 20W50? I would run 15W40 Rotella T4 (the marine motor manufacturers are now shying away from full synthetic)

Wix or Napa filters

Never heard of EC-W rating for oil
Mercs latest oil is 20W-40 full syn

API certifies kinds of oil

https://www.api.org/products-and-se...categories-and-classifications/oil-categories

Yes API certifies oil... NMMA certifies marine specific oil.

EC-W is an NMMA rating for Engine oil specifically formulated for marine engines.
It is supposed to be better for sustained Hi RPM usage and have less propensity to foam up, etc...

I didn't think there was going to be a difference until I started researching it.

Wondering why they would shy away from full synthetics? Profit? They can make more $$$ with blends? I was an Oil Pump Applications & Test Engineer for about 18 months for cars. A Castrol Engineer once told me that Synthetic-Blends are a waste of money and don't protect much better than conventional motor oils.....

According to my owner's manual you are correct with 20W50, thanks for that.. It does, however, specify full synthetic.

Scott Danforth , I've never seen any application where dino oil is superior to synthetic, where did that come from?
I don't see an ec-w rating from nmma, tc-w? Interestingly, none from major oil companies (or Merc). Guessing that this is just that they don't want to pay for the cert rather than that they don't meet the specs. This has been an issue with BMW for years, where the oils lose certification without having altered their formulations. Might want to nose around the bitog.com forums a bit...

The NMMA certification is FW-C, and it applies to four stroke outboard engines.

I/O and inboard engines are variants of automotive engines. Merc recommends their conventional 25W-40, or their 25W-40 full syn.

They do not recommend 10-30. You need the higher viscosity for the higher engines and loads in a boat.

Yep the spec is FCW. The Merc/Quicksilver 25/40 oil is available everywhere. There’s a conventional and semi syn version; I’ve used the regular stuff for years with good results.
I thought I recall reading that the full syn was discontinued leaving the regular and semi syn.
