Still looking for a boat and found this Bryant. My concern is the Mercruiser with over 660 hours. I am new to i/O and just don't know how long these engines will run without major probs. It sounds like to many hours for a $30K boat. It is a fresh water boat and will be used in a lake. If it was a Yam outboard I wouldn't hesitate.
thanks for your input.

I'm kind of curious about this myself. My boat doesn't have a rum time meter so I have no idea how many hours are on it. You figure a 4 year old boat, that's over 150 hours a season on it. Also consider a typical car traveling at 60mph that's almost 40,000 miles, which I am guessing a boats hours average out to be a little rougher than that of a car. Hope you get an answer and not just my random thoughts.

Some of the hour clocks will run if the key is turned on but not started. If the PO left the key on it could rack up some significant hours fast. Does the seller have an explanation? Or it could just be the boat was used hard. Have a surveyor do an engine survey. Costs a bit more but it will tell you alot about the condition of the motor. Those could be some easy hours or it might have had the snot run out of it.

I purchased the boat. It is a beauty and I couldn't pass it up.
Do a search on Bryant 220 and I think you may agree.

MPI engines keep track of run hours, based on revs, in the ECU memory. Hook up a diagnostic computer and you can read it out directly. Even if the 600 hours is correct, I wouldn't be worried by it. My previous V6 (4.3LX) now has 1200 hours and it's still going strong. I would be more concerned by a 4 year old engine with less than 50 hours on it. I have a saying, "It's not using a boat that kills it, it's not using it that does the damage."

Good luck with what you bought. First thing I do on a 'new' purchase is a full and complete service. You don't know the service history, and I believe what a seller tells me about as much as a politician, so that service you do will be your baseline.

Ayuh,..... My ole 4.3LX is comin' up on 2,000 hours, 'n still runs like the day I built it,.....

Most any Sbc/ Bbc should be able to run several thousand hours, if maintained properly,...
A compression, 'n leak-down test will tell ya more about the motor's condition, than an hour meter,...

Generally speakin',... Boat motors are Killed by their owners,... Few ever wear out,....
