I've got a 50 TLDI tohatsu will the brand Tiny Tach work on this motor if not what is a good little hand held tach for this motor so I can determine what RPM's I'm running?

Thanks
Chris

Re: 2011 Tohatsu 50 TLDI Tach

Tiny tachs are avaialble for virtually any engine. Since your engine is a two stroke the only thing you need to know is if it has wasted spark or not. A two stroke fires each plug once every rev. If you have a wasted spark engine the spark plug fires at the top and bottom of the stroke (twice per engine rev). I don't think that's the case with your motor but someone will certainly chime in with a "yes it is" or "no it isn't" answer.

Re: 2011 Tohatsu 50 TLDI Tach

Thanks for replying, after I posted this I realized "myhuntfish" used the tiny tach on his motor but had some trouble with it. I may need to shoot him a pm and see if he ever got it figured out with his. I need to have some kinda tach on this to decide where I'm at and to determine what prop to go to for more speed.

Has anyone tried a low water pickup on there motor? if so how do you like it?

Thanks
Chris

Re: 2011 Tohatsu 50 TLDI Tach

Have used tachs from Tiny Tachs and Hardline on Tohatsu 18, 2 strokes, 2 cylinder engines but counts double rpm because of the wasted spark, but works ok on same 2 St. 30-40 HP and 4 strokes. If counting double nothing can be done, not even shielding the other spark plug cable. If you have separate ignition coils, probably will work ok ?

Not sure but I think the present day Tinytach can be set to work on any motor
with an ignition.car, boat, lawn mower,50 years old or 1 year old etc. etc.

You will need to be careful that pulse wire is routed carefully so it doesn't pick up stray pulses. There are a lot tachs out there.Unfortunately I haven't tried one.One of these days I may get one just to see how deversified they are. This mybe erevelent after the post above.Though the new Tinytach is supposed to fit most anything.??

I sent an email to this company and will just have to wait for a email to come back.

I'm lost here so if I hook this thing up it could be reading double the rpm?? I'll probably call the guy up i bought the motor from and ask him about it.

If it ends up doubled just reduce by 1/2.devide by 2.I think you could use as a portable tach on any motor in the future.

Re: 2011 Tohatsu 50 TLDI Tach

I know that Tohatsu has a tach they say that is good for the TLDI but will check on the price of it, I will really just need it for testing to see where I'm at for what prop to go with, don't care to spend a ton of money if i can help it. This is what I found http://www.tohatsu.com.au/content/tachometer I'm betting this one is pricey but will wait and see what Tiny tach says when they email me back.

Thanks

The new TT2A is firing programmable, the old standard models were for specific firing, have the standrad one. If still counts double divide by 2.
