I have a 2012 60hp etec on an 2010 1600 Lund Alaskan tiller. Approximate hull weight is 960lbs. plus 1 person and gear at about 220lbs. with a full 19 gallon tank. I installed a tiny tach and was suprised to find out its maxing out at 6230rpms at full throttle. Im turning the factory 13.75x13 prop. It comes right out of the hole but i was looking for a little more top speed. But i noticed that at full throttle the motor shakes and vibrates almost like its cavitating or rev. limiter is kicking in? Motor is mounted correctly with plate even with bottom of the boat. Any input of whats going on or what prop i should be running would be appreciated. Thanks

Try a 13.75x15 prop and see what happens.

You can go buy a BRP prop or for less money order a Solas Amita prop from iBoats. You are hitting the Rev limiter by the sounds of it. A 15" inch prop would drop your RPM by 300 if you weren't on the limiter. You might want to go to a 17" which would but you at about 5700 which would be right in the middle of the operating range.

Re: 2012 Etec 60hp High RPMs

Ive heard people talking about rogue, viper, or raker props. Whats the run down on these? I figured id keep the 13.75x13 prop for winter/duck hunting being it will be under a larger load. What i was wanting was a few more mph for summer use. I wont be pulling tubes or skiers. Thats what prompted me to get the tach to see what rpm i was running. Sorry for all the questions but i hate to spend 300$ on a prop that doesnt work. Thanks a lot for all the help.

Hey there, try goin over to the props section of the forum and see what your get. An alum prop will run you less than a hundy. I would recommend a turning point hustler or solar Amita. They are both squeeze cast and won't be quite up there with SS in performance but will cost A LOT less and perform better than your run of the mill aluminum prop. Generally speaking for every 1" increase in prop you will drop 200rpm.

If it was my boat I would probably get a http://boatpropellers.iboats.com/Jo...-135-15_Propeller/569/6260/?*******=971715683

I'm not sure what your max recommend rpm is for your etec but marine engines are happier when the max out in the upper half of the max recommend rpm range.

Are you currently running an aluminum prop or a stainless? Aluminum will run you a hundred bucks where as a steel wheel will set you back 250.00 or more.

Currently running the Aluminium that came with boat and motor. I would like to get a stainless but as i said i hate to buy a 300$ prop to find out its not what i expected it to be. Looking for more top end speed because this prop will be used in the summer. Not much weight will be in the boat during the summer as it will be used mostly for pleaseure/fishing. But I also need to get the rpms down to recomended operating range which is around 5700-5800 i believe.

On your boat I would stick with an aluminum prop and would either buy a 15 or a 17 Solas Amita. It will give you the performance your looking for.
