My boat is brand new. The first trip to the lake ,backed it in hit the key and click was all I got. After testing the solenoid wire with a test light ,it would only light up for 2 seconds or so even if the key was still engaged. Some times it will just work perfect. Had a shop install a new switch. It worked every time for about ten cranks and started the clicking again. Can use a starter button and it cranks every time. Tired of hauling it to town. So I have got a test light and have checked the solenoid wire at the main harness plug on the motor. Fire is passing thru the plug in and in to the electric module in front of the engine. But can't get any fire on the wire coming from the relay. Yes i changed relays , it cranked 1 time and now just clicks again. Could it have a bad module from brand new? Any input appreciated. I can jump it at the starter and ride but it don't look real cool on a brand new boat .LOL

Did you check all the connections,
Sounds like a bad connection / loose wire somewhere or maybe a corroded wire..
Might even be in the key switch itself...
Or even a sticky solenoid

Just a thought..

I have checked all connections , getting fire on the yellow red wire going in and coming out of the main wiring harness at the motor. I did replace the ignition switch. If u use a starter button at the solenoid it works every time. Seems to me the ECM is bad . No fire on the solenoid wire coming out of the relay. I changed the relay , it worked one time. Changed relays again no luck this time. It just clicks and turns the motor about 1/8 of a turn and the stops Everyone and then it will work.

You say If u use a starter button at the solenoid it works every time...

therefor, I would think the problem is from the key to the solenoid then... I would
go through that wiring again... Has to be a bad ground or a bad wire I would think....
Wait and see what others say...

Well now that I think about it a little more, It could also be the power supply feeding the key switch...
Just trying to help...

The problem is definitely on the motor. The wiring harnes from the key to the motor works perfect. The yellow red wire to the solenoid gets fire on it every time I hit the key. The yellow red gets fire all the way thru the main plug and into the ECM or the metal box on front of the engine. But no fire on the yellow red that runs from the relay to the solenoid. All grounds are good. I am thinking the ecm is bad. But asking if anyone else has had this problem. Yes if u jump it at the starter it will work every time.

I know this is an old thread, but were you able to find the source of the issue. I have the exact same thing happening.
