2012 Mercury 40hp.Big tiller

While running in shallow water with the motor trimmed up,i can only go so fast before the motor automatically trims down on its own after a certain rpm,i cannot trim back up..if I idle down I can trim up or down to whatever position i want.Is this a safety feature of some sort or do i have trouble with my tilt,trim.?

I assume you have power trim and tilt. Tilt runs from -4 degrees to +75 degrees. Power trim runs from -4 to + 20 where a pressure relief in the tilt function lowers the engine if it was tilted higher than 20 degrees when excessive rpms were applied. Your engine is working as it should.

Thank You..Yes,It does have tilt,trim and a breakaway plate installed,1754 boat sorry about that,.I recently bought this rig and we fished in a shallow river with some shoals less than a foot deep.I do not have a owners manual yet,but I found one online.Thanks Again.
