2012 Sundeck Sport 188 OB - Length with motor and folding trailer?

Hi,

I'm looking at the 2012 Sundeck Sport 188 OB and am trying to get some definitive dimensions to determine how it will fit in my garage. I've only seen 1 at a dealer and it did not have a motor and was sitting on a EZ Loader trailer with folding tongue. I'd be looking at a 150 engine (brand TBD). Rough estimates looked to be 22-23 ft footprint.

I'm limited to 22 1/2 ft garage length (without sacrificing car space by angling the boat - wife would not be happy parking her car outside ;) and 7 ft high garage doors.

It looked like the fixed ski-pole (which I like) appears to be over 7 ft when sitting on the trailer, does not seem that there is a telescopic pole option for the 188 - so I may have to go without, or find a way to make it "quick-release" somehow. I can drop the bimini top and snap the windshield off and the rest should make the height constraint.

If anyone can share any info on length or suggestions on ski-pole height/options I'd really appreciate it. I'm hoping to going the hurricane owners "club".

Thanks!

I don't know if this helps or not, but from the transom back, the Yamaha F150 takes up around 28" of space when the motor is in the vertical position. It may be a little less on the 188 depending on the angle of the transom.

Keep in mind that depending on the trailer, you may have to tilt the motor back to prevent the skeg from hitting the ground. When the motor is fully tilted, this adds another 12-13 inches, so it would be close to 40" from the back of the transom in the tilted position. This would be the absolute maximum amount of space the motor would take up. If you counted on around 36" total that would get the skeg off the ground in most cases.

I don't have any solution for the ski pole. I wanted to get the telescoping pole on my boat, instead of the fixed pole, but they couldn't/wouldn't do it and I ordered my boat. Someone with basic welding skills could lower the fixed pole, but the problem will be that when you tow a skier/wakeboarder you need the height for the rope to clear the outboard. If it is too low the rope is going to hang on the outboard every time the skier crosses the wake. There is probably a way to cut the existing pole and weld on a telescoping pole......maybe a project for me next season.

Good luck!

ErnestT has it spot on with the 28" range with the engine down and more if you tilt it. Depending on the height of the trailer will depend on how much you'll need to tilt it. I know I have about 2-3" of clearance on mine when striaght up and down so I only need to slightly tilt it to move it.

I understand your concerns height wise. Mine (I own a SS188), with the bimini down will not fit inside my garage but is more because of the width of the boat on the trailer (I have 2 single garage doors). I don't believe on a standard 7ft door the ski pole is an issue, but in fairness I can't say for certain as the width of the boat/trailer instantly excluded me from trying.

If you have standard single doors, width will eliminate the ability to get it in there.

Good luck and hope it works out and you end up with a Hurricane.

Thanks for responding NelsonQ! I'm thinking it could fit with a couple inches to spare.

Re: 2012 Sundeck Sport 188 OB - Length with motor and folding trailer?

I have a 2011 Sundeck 187 IO (basically the same boat but with a full windshield) that just fits in my garage. The garage is 23' deep with a 9' wide by 7' high door. It is tight in all areas. On the length I have about 6" to spare with the motor down and the tough swung away (EZ Loader trailer). For the width I had about an inch per side going through the door. They widest point is across the bow. For the height I had to use the trailer jack, as low as it would go and walk the boat into the garage. I had less than an inch clearance from the windshield. Going in I knew height would be a problem so the dealer ordered me an ezloader trailer with 13" tires to try to keep it low. But the Hurricanes are deep boats so it still sits high on the trailer.
I'm not sure how much difference there is in overall length between an IO and an OB but it sounds like you might be cutting it close.
As for putting the boat on an angle I found that wasn't an option for me due to the squarish bow.

Good luck.
