Hi there, do you have an EFI engine or a carbureted engine?
The "signal" tachometer wire is either going to be Gray or Brown while the +12v power may be purple or white and ground is black.
If the engine is fuel injected and you become interested, you could install a blue CAN bus line and use a single smart craft gauge with all the digital read out goodies the engine/gauge has to offer.
