I’m a newb when it comes to this kind of stuff. Money is tight so I decided to learn to do my own maintenance. I changed my lower unit oil today and I thought it went fairly well. Had to jack up my trailer to get my motor level. I pulled the prop and drained the oil. Filled it up and put everything back together. Went to flush my motor and when I started it up I started spraying black oil onto a nearby bucket. I stopped the motor and everything seemed to be ok. I was kinda freaking out thinking I messed something up. I then thought that maybe when I pulled the plug some old oil went back by the exhaust ports and when I wiped up I didn’t get it? It leaked a few drops down the lower unit but appears to have stopped. Any input would be appreciated! I’m trying to get some piece of mind lol. Oh and for what it’s worth my oil that I drained was nasty but not contaminated with anything. Thanks!

Definitely used (black) gear lube. When I drained the fluid at first I didn’t realize my motor wasn’t all the way down. What I think happened was that a bunch old lube went back into the lower unit case. Still not %100. My logic is saying if the case was leaking it would be the brand new gear lube leaking out. Not the old black stuff
