2016 Mercury 40 Horse , No telltale ,

We started it with the hose connected , Dont recall if the telltale pee's before it warms up and the thermostat opens , But I am trying to figure why the tell tale is not peeing with a hose hook up , Just changed the water pump , Is there a thread on this all ready ? And where to get a manual ? On line or paper back ? or is there another thread on this allready ?
