So my PTT motor decided to give up sometime during winter storage.
This weekend I verified the motor is not working by applying 12v directly to it.
Does anyone have experience replacing this motor, and did you go with the OEM for $500 or one of the aftermarket motors? I found one on Amazon from Southmarine for $112, but worried it is probably China junk that will fail in one season. Although it doesn't look like too hard a job to replace, other than the back screw, I don't want to have to keep doing this job.
Thanks!

I once cheaped out and bought one off Amazon for like 90 bucks—said it was Japanese technology. Used it three times that first season and it locked up completely. Took it apart and found the gears inside were plastic. Ended up replacing it with a $150 one from a U.S. brand (can’t remember the name), and it’s been running fine for two years now. So yeah, aftermarket isn’t always bad, you just have to pick the right brand.

Agreed. After doing some research, seems like a lot of folks use either ARCO or DB Electrical motors. Unfortunately, ARCO doesn't seem to make one for mine and some say the DB electrical ones have corrosion issues, although they didn't say whether they were using them in salt or freshwater.
