Hello all,
I just purchased a new 9.9 Suzuki it has a 4 blade high thrust prop mounted it on my Jon boat went to do my break in and couldn’t get my boat to even plane it seemed like the prop was venting real bad I noticed when I unboxed it the prop has 1/2 inch gap between it and the lower unit maybe they put the wrong prop on at factory? Wanted to see if anyone else had this problem today is Saturday will be calling my Suzuki dealer on Monday
Thanks in advance

Once the motor is broken in need to install an induction tach, go for a wot run and report max achieved rpm to go from there. Factory delivered props are usually medium pitched and not suitable for all applications. If having prop aeration issuses while the motor sits trimed to 90 deg and deck load well distributed, definitely sits too high...

Firstly test the prop installed independetly of the new one and report each wot rpm achieved with each. Must know the min-max wot rpm range factory stated for that motor, stay with the one that achievd the highest wot rpm.

Is Yamaha a better motor than Suzuki? I see a lot more Yahamas on people's boats.

I'm thinking about buying a used boat (2017) and it has a Suzuki motor. Is there any downsize at all in getting it instead of some other boat with a Yamaha?

What about service? More mechanics know Yahama or about the same?

Welcome to IBoats,

All japanese motors are well built. It's a matter of brand preference. There are Yamaha, Suzuki an Tohatsu lovers, well serviced and cared for will last for years to come....

I have the exact same gap on my motor that just showed up yesterday. What did you find out?
