I finally got my 20hp chrysler to run and idle really good in a barrel and decided it was time to take it to the lake. Got there and trolled through the no wake zone and opened the throttle up and it took off nicely and then bogged down. Well I adjusted the screw on the front and it ran like a champ for about 30 min so I thought it was fixed and went back to the dock. Next day I go fishing and it wont open up again for anything. It idles great but 1/2 to 3/4 throttle is all I can get without bogging. Here are the things I'ved done so far.

New Fuel Pump
New Connectors from tank to engine ( swapped to a johnson fitting)
New Fuel Lines
Cleaned Carb twice
Adjusted roller cam.
Cleaned Points
New Plugs
No Ethenol Gas

Only thing I can think of from reading the other post about this is my float may be wrong. When I first got it running I had fuel coming out of the overflow so to fix it I bent the tab on the float just a little. Could this be causing my problem? I thought I had bent it enough to fix it but keep it level

No if it's running at all the float's probably ok.
Is it set for level and drop?
Sounds like the tanks vent is closed??
A pinched line, sucking air from somewhere?
A bad squeezie can do this too.
They can be bad right from the box(Tempo).
Check for water in the gas.
Compression test.
Check the fuel pump diaphram.
Even NEW can go bad in a second.1 little cough, backfire can rupture a diaphram.

Check the float level. I have had a 20Hp that ran great up to 3/4 throttle and then bogged down. Thought it was the fuelpump but it was the float level. It was to low and the engine starved for fuel. The float should be parallel with the casting when you turn the carb upside down.

Alright guys i was finally able to get out and work on this thing this weekend and here are the results. Same darn thing is happening. Here is what I have done. Took carb off and cleaned once again checked and adusted float (It was very slightly off if any). Made sure all lines were tight with hose clamps. Put in new fuel pump. Change the tank and hose to my neighbors which is brand new and runs great on his motor. He hooked my tank and line up to his motor and it ran like a champ. I adjusted some more on the idle screw slightly while running still no luck. Got to the lake and right off the bat it ran like a champ for 20-30 min. Cut it off and fished and crank it back up an hour later and it boggs at wot. I am out of patience with this thing. If you pump the bulb at full throttle it stays at full throttle and no bogging but like I said its a brand new fuel pump.

Okey, some more things. How long is the hose from the tank? And what diameter has the hose?
I am in Europe and used to millimeter but I always use 8 millimeter diameter hose instead of 6 millimeter.
Think you have 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch in US. If you have 1/4, try a larger diameter hose.
To long hose makes problem for the fuelpump.
Another try is to put the tank at a higher level compared to the engine then it is easier for the fuelpump to deliver fuel to the carb.
Try to have the tank beside the engine.

Hope this will help you.

I will check the length of the hose which is actually not a bad idea cause mine is pretty long. Its a 3/8 diameter which would be around a 10-12mm for you nordin. I talked to a guy today that has worked on motors in the past and he said that I may have a coil getting hot and not firing like it should at full throttle. Do you guys know which coil would work the bottom cylinder. This seems to be the cylinder that gets the blackest whenever I pull them to clean or replace.

OK! If it will run well at full throttle when you pump the bulb, then you do NOT have electrical problems. It is running out of gas and going FLAT, not bogging down. Bogging down is getting way too much fuel and sounds and feels different. Since you have replaced the fuel pump, for the time being let's decide that that is not the problem.

Check your quick-connect fittings, if any for partial clogs. It is highly liklely that you have a loose piece of crap in them or in the carb inlet. REMOVE the fuel inlet to the carb and clean the fitting and the carb. Remove the needle and seat and clean both of them check that the rubber in the seat is not swelled, restricting fuel inlet. As a last resort, it is possible to ream out the seat with a fine drill to enlarg the hole but then you must reset the float.

Re: 20hp Bogging at wot. Need some help

Ok guys I want to say thank you for your help and patience with me. I got the motor back to running and I would have never guessed it but Nordin you were right. The fuel line just must have been too long. First thing I did this weekend was take the carb back off and clean once again. Went back to the lake and it did the same exact thing at wot. So i cut the fuel line in half out of frustration and lack of options and she ran like a champ. Now I think its time to sell her. I love my chrysler but for lack of parts availability and working on it more than I use it I think its time. Hopefully someone can buy this and not have the troubles I have had

GOOD, I have been out for that problem with a friends 30Hp Rude, well I think most of the parts for regular maintenance as pumpdiaphragma, points, impeller and plugs are still available for the Chrysler 20Hp. Franzmarine have almost everything.
Those Chrysler 20Hp runs very, very silent and smooth compared to other brands for example Merc, Ruds, Johnson and Japanees Suzuki, Yamaha.
And a fourstroke is not in my minde, to expensive and you can not do anything about mainentance self, except for gear and engine oil and filter.
But that is my own opinion.
