Hello everyone,

I have done some work on quite a few older OMC outboards but I am brand new to the wiring of any electrical wiring in them.
I recently purchased this outboard and it was previously wired for a side console/key start but I would like to wire it up to be a push button start.

Could anyone give me a rundown on how to wire this up? I have attached pictures of the motor and the button.

Thank you very much for any help!

basically the selenoid must be enegized with one side grounded via or not ... a safety device to prevent starting in gear or high throttle

a fused source of battery +12v under control of your new switch routed to the control post (the other being grounded of course) will energize the seledoid.

see basic (typical) layout follow the greenish /red from the selenoid control post back to the switch S position.

all your new switch will do is forego (duplicate) the front mounted one by sending +12v to the control post .

if your engine needs other connectivity to work make certain other needs are met otherwise it will spin but not start

From the solenoid battery + side you feed 12 volts to your push button switch.------From the push button switch you go to one small post on the solenoid. ---From the other post you go to one spade on the neutral ( white plastic ) safety switch.----Note the safety switch only needs ONE WIRE !!
