Good day to all
I have this 20hp Johnson that has sat in my garage for a good part of 2 years and in that time it had a full lower gear case of oil. There has never been any sign of any seapage.
I put it into the drum to start it up and check it out for a fish trip later this week.
It started no problem but I figured I would let it run for a while just to make sure things were good. It shifted gears good, ran and idled down good but I noticed the drum had a considerable amount of oil floating the top of the water.
I decided then that it has run enough and it time to see where the leak is from.
After reading my service manual it showes only 3 seals 1 o-ring, 1 regular seal and 1 o-ring material cut to 12 7/8" long.
It also says I will need a special tool in order to remove the drive shaft seal, is there a DIY tool or do I need to purchase the special tool?
I removed the prop and it appeared that it was still tight but there is a little play and that being the play is in and out ( not much play but play never the less) not up and down.
Any tips?
