20hp mariner no high revs ???

Have just brought this 13ft alum.Savage with a<br />20hp mariner long shaft with elect. starter<br />ser.08270200 89 model with CDI ignition and a<br />integral fuel pump carburetor with primer system.<br />It had not been started for 2 years, has fresh fuel<br />has good spark on both new plugs have pulled apart<br />carb cleaned and replaced primer diaphragm all<br />other parts looked ok. Motor idles ok runs up to<br />2000rpm at wot no miss should run 4500-5500rmp<br />allso have checked fuel tank, lines,filters etc.<br />allso check compresion 120psi both cylinders .<br />any ideas? [Confused]

hi achris, have moved stater plate by hand <br />while running at wot to advance spark dose not <br />make any change revs .Allso checked timing with<br />timing light at wot running on boat settings are spot on.Butterfly in cab. is allso in wide open <br />position,any more suggestions im lost.

Try pumping the fuel primer bulb while it's running. If that helps, you have a fuel problem, if not, it ain't. And check to be sure it's not being sucked flat.<br /><br />Chris..................

the fuel primer bulb is as hard as rock cannot<br />pump more fuel in, this is after first prime to<br />start motor and while the motor is running .Its not being sucked flat while running . <br />Peter.............

I now think it might be electical because I<br />cannot find any problem with the fuel system.<br /> any one got any idears!! or it will cost lots of dollars at the machanic and thats not good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been reading some off the other postings<br /> and have found these<br />Loss of RPMs while under load<br />Mercury 50hp-500 power loss at WOT<br />mercury 30 (No power at Full Throttle<br /> all off these posted problems appear to be the same as I have and every one that posts a reply<br /> seem to think its a fuel problem.But when you<br />read all the above posts and see how many things in the <br /> fuel system we have checked / change and still <br />have the same problem,!! it makes you wonder if<br />its fuel. Because there is so many with this problem maybe sum of the machanics would take<br />up the challenge!!!!

sounds like all of you have stator problems , my 60 hp mariner 1996 have the same symptons ,put a new stator in now runs sweet . but you need to test it before changing it as there bloody expensive

Obron-<br /><br />I have a similar problem and also think it is electrical. Are you having any problems with you gauges or trim working intermittenly? I do and think mine could be related.

hi kickinchicken .downloaded file still lost on <br />how to check stator help.<br />hi bshores, I do not have any gauges or trim on my boat so I do not have that trouble . I would check<br />all negative/earth leads that could solve your<br />problems . sorry for being so long been away.
