20hp merc

I just picked up a 20 hp merc #185938 and not sure about how well these motors are for repair. I Have 3 Johnson/Rudes but this will be my first Merc. restore. Anything that i might need to be aware of? Im assuming it is a super hurricane? or at least its stamp under the cowling. Thanks in advance.

parts are a little hard to come by, but iboats and ebay are great places to look. i have a 1967 super hurricane that i am trying to get going. i,m more of a johnson/evinrude guy myself but i have nothing bad to say about mercurys they are both great outboards. good luck with the restore.

thanks for the luck ill take all i get. by the way the serial number is 1859381. i left a digit off of the other post.

When you get it going & on your boat, Always have the engine running when you change gear. These Mercs are funny about that.

ive noticed that with this motor. my johnson/rudes dont seem to act that way. thanks.
