I have an Evinrude 20 hp manual start. Model number CE20CRCOS
I picked up kelp, plugged the intakes and overheated the engine until it quit. Now it will not start. After much pulling there have been a couple of pops but that is it.

Compression is 115 in top cylinder and 105 in the bottom. Both plugs provide a spark. I have manually squirted fuel into cylinders and nothing.

Suggestions?

All it takes to make an engine run is, compression, spark and fuel. Did you pull the plugs, what do they look like? Usually overheating an engine does damage to the head gasket, or warp the head. Did you check spark with a spark checker, will it jump a 7/16 gap? If you squirted fuel mix into carb, and have good compression, you have to wounder about spark.

That is what I thought. Fuel, compression and spark.

The plugs are new and in good shape. When trying to start they ultimately get wet, indicating there is fuel. I have made sure they were bone dry in the re-tests.

I don't have a spark checker, just eyeballed the spark. But I will get one and test it, then post back.

Update. Spark is fine. Instead of putting fuel directly into the cylinder I squirted some into the carburetor. This time I got it to run temporarily, so there is something with the fuel. When running it ran smoothly. As I?m a novice at this any advice on narrowing it down from here would be appreciated.
