20HP Rebuild Question(s)

Greetings,

In addition to the motor I bought for my boat this summer, the guy threw in a 20HP tiller model "for parts".

I've quickly gone through it and it is complete, but let's assume that it is low compression / ran without oil / stripped output shaft / whatever.

Ballpark what kind of $$ should I estimate to do all of the seals, hone the pistons, rebuild the carb, etc. doing the labour myself. In short - would it be worth the effort?

Other question is: Are the Seloc models complete enough to walk a talented-enough shadetree mechanic through the steps, or is there a better manual for a complete teardown and rebuild?

Thanks in advance,
/Kris

I'd say it's worth it if you don't have to buy pistons or a crank or a whole bunch of electrical. I would get the factory shop manual for your motor, the Selocs are just too general. Saying that though..I have two factory manuals for my 35 Johnson and a Seloc and found some little stuff in the Seloc that were more "tips" than anything and it helped. Good luck.
