I have a weird issue going on right now. I had a busted up hood on my 20 hp rude with TNT. The motor runs fine and run very good then I installed a used hood off of a 30hp rude about the same year looks exactly the same with out the sound dedning in the new one is the only difference other that the cracks. Now the motor run perfect for about 3 miles then lost Rpm and power as it droped 500rpm and about 5mph and had no power on restarts as the boat will not even plane removed the hood and the motor runs perfect reisatll the hood and it has no power. Just tried it again and motor did the exact same thing run perfect fot the same distance and lost power and removed cover and it run good. It is like a heat issue or starving for air issue. Here is the kicker the motor was not running good and I installed the old hood with cracks and the boat run perfect stopped and just changed the hood nothing else and the motor has no power changed hoods again with old hood installed and motor runs great. Help or toss ideas at me.

You have an exhaust leak. Check the gasket under the powerhead or the rubber grommet where the shift lever comes up.

You guys hit it I beleive as one of the powerhead to exhust nuts was gone. It must have never been tightened. It was the killer one in behind the shift lever. I just purchased it at the end of last year so who knows whet else is loose. I will check every bolt and nut now. I will try later this week and reply with results them.

Thanks again.

tashasdaddy is right. I would go a step further and not only consider it but do it. Not a tough thing to change. It is probably blown out where the bolt was loose.

How hard is it to change it out ? I have a service manual but just want to make sureI would not mess it up as it is a 2 hour drive to the closest OMC dealer for me to chase a part or try to get help.
