Hey guys, I'm rebuilding this motor its a 1987 evinrude 225, and I have read on iboats that the flywheel magnets are supposed to be evenly spaced, I checked mine and 3 of them have become loose and slid into the next one. What effect does this have on the motor when it runs? How do you fix it? Reglue with what kind of product, or should i find a replacement flywheel? Thanks for all your help and time. Bob

Re: 225 3 loose flywheel magnets

You need a good epoxy glue, a type that I'm sure someone here will recommend a specific brand. Take the time to clean the magnets and the flywheel surface thoroughly, and check (tap) the remaining magnets to make sure that they aren't just about ready to bust loose also.

Notice the magnet beveled end portion? Don't install any of them upside down! Use short pieces of 3/8" O.D. fuel line to space the magnets evenly.

yep been there many times I've always used j-b weld so far never had one let lose yet.the 3/8 hose is a good idea.but i would still use a clamp to hold them in place.it does not take too much pressure to hold them in place.good luck.
