Newby here. I have been working on evin/john for several years, I have one question. I have a cracked Johnson 97, 225 block. I also have a complete Johnson 1987,225 short block, that has been bored and it runs great. Can I exchange and put the 87 on the 97 set-up? Thanks

Yes but there may be some wiring connections you will have to modify, also the 87 225 is a small bore (2.7) with large airbox, so you will have to change out throttle /shift bracket, air box, tap threads in carbs for air box screws or cowling wont fit.

Thanks, I plan on just using the short block and take everything else off of the 97. I have been running the 97 with the small chambered heads off of the 87 for about two years. I have it on a Blaser 202 (copy of a Bullet)

Re: 225 blocks

I run the 2.7 heads also and V-8 carbs. If you did the cooling mod to heads(2.7) make sure you remove the epoxy or it wont cool right, also you will need to change back to old style t-stats or install 86 70hp stat and covers to correct cooling issues. I run mine on a 20 ft Javlin which has the modified/copied Allison bottom.
