225 looper powerpack problem?

In dealing with another issue on my 1995 225 looper, I had to remove and then put back the powerpack. When doing that, I inadvertently caught the purple wire coming from the timer base connector to the pack on the stud post(the one that the ground attaches to, and bolted it down between the pack and the stud nut. A DUMB thing to do. Not knowing this was done, I of course ran the engine on a fishing trip. About half way through the trip..half of the engine shut down like turning off the switch. We got back on the 3 cylinders and found the stupid mistake at the landing. The wire insulation had been squizzed off and of course the wire was grounded to the stud post. That post gets very hot, so in time it brok down the insulation and ultimately grounded out. We put it back correctly ,used liquid insulator on the wire, checked to see if the wire was cut(no sign of that) and tried it...still 1/2 of the engine dead. We did not test the pack, but it is probable that the grounding of the purple wire during operation may have fried the pack..or maybe the timer base electronics?? Since the timer base is trouble checked to ground, would an inadvertant ground fault fry it?? I would think the PP would be more sensetive to such a condition...Can anyone give me some kneejerk thoughts on this this issue. I think I will need a new pack. And, what is a good source for the best price on such a part..other than a repair/dealer shop? I have found some sources on the internet..are there some good suggested ones that I should consider.
I thank you for any hints and insight you can give me before I launch off to find and fix my dumb mistake.Just maybe someone did the same dumb thing once in there engine tinkering career. Could I have screwed something else up?

Thanks everyone,

David K.

http://www.maxrules.com/fixomcindex.html
Try Mastertech...
You can install a new PPack but is that what got shorted out?It could be just that or that and something else, ect.IMO the best thing to do in this case is to take it to a pro with the right testing equipment. This may also be less expensive. ;)
