Hey! I have contacted Doral and they are not responding, as I read in another post it seems to be company policy to ignore people.

I just bought a 23' 1984 Doral 227. I wanted to see how much gas it would hold, my wallet was smaller then my curiosity and I stopped at 210 litres. The fuel gauge was stuck at 1/8, after a few days it went to below 1/2. After running out of gas, and being stuck on the lake for a good 90 minutes with my 1 and 3 year olds I changed the fuel gauge. After putting 200 litres in the new gauge read 1/16, a few minutes later 1/4, many minutes later 1/2. After a good boat ride it is still sitting at 1/2.

How large is the fuel tank on a 23' 1984 Doral 227? I would like to know to see if the new gauge is reading properly, or do I have another gremlin. Is there a place to get specs, or an owners manul for my model, other then the less then helpful Doral?

Thanks from Peterborough Ontario

Sorry about your experiences and welcome to iboats. Doral should be able to help you with the information and I am surprised that they have not made any form of contact.
Did you change just the gauge or did you change the sender unit in the tank as well ?? My gauge will only work with the navigation lights on so that it is not constantly using the battery for a tank reading while it is sitting idle at the dock. I just flick the navigation lights on for a second or so to check the fuel level. Could be wise to take a couple of cans of spare gas with you in case you happen to run out again. Can you see the tank ??? if so measure it
Length x Width x Height and we can calculate the volume.
What contact information are you using for Doral ???

Hey thanks. I only changed the gauge, hoping this maybe the problem. The old one had a crack in it, so it was damaged some how. All my gauges works when you turn the key. I was really hoping not to have to carry spare gas with the children, they would end up playing with it. There are not a lot of places to store it safely, by the heat source of the engine, or the cuddy cabin. I can not see the tank at all. Doral has my Bell Sympatico email address, mailing address, phone number.

Doral just has poor customer service. Every boat you buy becomes old one day, and they are not going to be there to support you. Why buy new from them then. It is almost 2011, it would make sense they should have a data base. Some employees kid was probably looking for a summer job, have them scan old manuals, and upload them. Having a data base would show you actually care about your product and the owners. I guess I continue to wait at the mercy of Doral.

Thanks anyway from Peterborough Ontario.

Did you e-mail Doral requesting information ??? if so what address did you send your request to ???
Doral got back to me within 2 days when I contacted them a few years ago. Similar age boat as yours as well.
As regards the gauge issue my money (but not a lot of it) would be on the float in the sender unit being full of gas. Is your tank in the floor ???

Can you get to the sender unit ??? there is usually a removable piece over it ??? you should then be able to see the label on it that should tell you the capacity. usually a round plastic piece.

I called customer service, just voice mail, left message. I have seen the round plastic cover, and removed it to make sure all the wires were attached. I do not recall seeing an information on it. Is it easy to remove? It could probably use a good cleaning. The previous owner's husband has had medical problems for the last 4 years. I know it did not move this year, and how many other years.......
Thanks from Peterborough

The information sticker is usually close by under the cover. You may have to peer in the space around it with a flashlight. Sender unit is right there as well. Not too difficult to remove.

I emailed them from the Contact Us page and had the .pdf's of my owners manual within 24 hours. Nice marketing-support gal answered follow up questions fast too.

I did use the word "Bonjour" in the greeting...maybe that helps.:D
