ok, I recently purchased my 1988 sea ox 230c with omc sea drive. trying to get some kinks worked out and ran into a confusing problem. while fishing today i filled my fishbox with ice. problem : the water wont drain. i figured it was probably just clogged like every other drain in the boat. but my method of forcing water through it has not worked. now im trying to figure out how the box is plumbed and which hold on the side of the boat water is supposed to come out of, or where else it coudl come out of. if anyone is familiar with this boat and how it might be plumbed, any help would be appreciated

This is what he said:

Hope it helps

I have the same issue only on the left side, I have stuck wire, water and still no drains out. will aftert a month maybe?

It drains into the bildge, you get in there from the last deck plate, there is a hole there wear it comes out. Min e was hard to find, so I filled the right side and saw were it came out, then found the other side.

There is really no way to replum it unless you cut into the stringers or floor that I know of.
I have not put 100% effort into clearing the drain so if you find a better way let me know!

If it drains into the bilge, it's a cooler, not a fish box. I think you said there were other through-hull drains? use them for the fish.
Or plug it and bail it out if you have fish in there. You don't want a stanky box draining into your bilge or it will be stanky, too.

Re: 23' sea ox fishbox drain

Hey Qzone I just picked my Ox up a couple weeks ago myself. I have same exact boat but a 225 Evi. I plan on doing a lot of work over the next few months. We could share some of our findings. One thing I am starting will be replacing the switch panels and most if not all of the wiring.

How do you like it so far. I love this boat, had it out in the Ocean the other day and handled very niceley.

I have looked around and hear many good things about this year boat. Built like a tank and things like that. I plan on posting some pictures of my progress over the next few weeks.

I found this online and really like what he did with his boat a few years old but very nice.

Good luck. BTW I am pretty sure the Port side box is a livewell. I have a pump which needs to be replaced but it is plumbed in to that box. Are your port side scuppers below water line?

ok, know its been a while but finally got back on here with results. The drain goes into a T with the drain for the cooler. Mine was clogged with harder and more stuff than i could ever imagine. Took it out and dug it out with a screw driver, works perfectly now.

As far as how I like the boat, love it. I really want something a little faster but this will serve its purpose. It handles chop great, very dry and quite smooth in a 3-4 foot chop. Seems like the roomers are true, very sturdy boat, TANK is the word. The transome is a full 3 inchest thick. Only complaint is the wiring is horrible, I am slowly having to replace it all.

Also have to add, I also had it out in the ocean recently out of St. Augustine. Coming back in chose to cross the back side of a 50 ft. sport fishing boat wake. Not the brightest of ideas, but by the time i realized that it was too late. The wake was probably about 8 ft. Stuffed the nose, but the boat came through like a champ, was very confidence inspiring.

they are good old hulls. also it' sgood to learn what a boat will handle when you can test it in controlled settings.
Replacing the wiring on an old saltwater boat is typical.
