So I am about to pick up a 235 hp evinrude for 300 dollars and it needs a new head from the sounds of it...it runs but one cylinder has a crack in it and it is overheating. Wondering how hard it would be to take it apart and have it sleeved or have the whole cylinder replaced. I am mechanically inclined and have most tools to do the work...Just have never worked on a boat motor much other than spark plugs and some lower unit work. Any input would be great.

Needs a new head?....... You're speaking of a cylinder head??

A cracked cylinder? If you're speaking of the aluminum casting that surrounds the steel cylinder sleeve, that can't be repaired.

Having a cylinder resleeved is the most that can be done to a cylinder... there is nothing else that could be defined as a "whole cylinder".

Sounds like a complete teardown. Pull the bad head and post some pics.
