235 HP Looper Oil Pump

The oil pump on my 235 hp Looper, age unknown (assume 1985 ish) is disconnected. Today I noticed that every few seconds at idle (more with engine rpms up) the pump "spits" out a bit of fuel. My question is, is this some type of pressure relief; I cannot find a loose fitting. Can I completely remove the oil pump and simply tie the fuel line in direct? Any help is appreciated.
