I have an 84 merc 115, and have just the S.S. prop off yesterday. The only numbers I can find stamped on the inside is a 24. Is this the pitch of this prop, or am i missing more numbers somehow?

Welcome,
It could be a 24.It would be intended for a light fast boat.
A prop shop could measure it for you.Did you look under the prop nut,
Or on the barrel?

I'll check, but this boat came from craig list for $100 bucks. i looked under the prop nut before I destroyed it gettin it off, there's no number. I'm no expert on props, is this an ok pitch to run on an 84 ASI Imperial 17' open bow?

A $100 boat; thats hard to beat. However I would suspect they both have issues. You should do a compression test on the motor before putting any money into it.Check the floor and transom for rot.If the floor is spongy the hull may be comprimised.A 24" prop isn't likely to work on that boat but run it and get the max rpm and speed. You need to confirm the prop size in order to know what replacement is needed.

The first clue was a little tree growing out of the floor, but I bought it anyway for the engine. My wife did'nt feel safe on my other project boat (16' Glastron speed boat) so my new project boat was this craigslist nightmare 84 Imperial. I got the engine running good, so there was hope. To make a long story short, I replaced or rebuilt the transom, stringers, floor, marine carpet, seats, vinyl, dash, carbs, impeller,, lower unit, and some electrical. I'm not completely done yet, the upper half is in one side of the garage and the lower is in the other. Too cold to paint in NJ, it'll wait till spring. I'll post the project later this summer. Here's a few pics of the nightmare!
