Re: 24' pontoon 115 J/E
I would expect it to get closer to 30 mph unless it is an older pontoon and motor. What year is the motor? If its pre 85 it is probably rated at the crank and not the prop so it could be closer to 95 or 100 hp. Also how clean are the toons? You can easily pick up 5mph with clean ones over grungy ones. you can scrub them clean in the witer with a nylon brush. What is your WOT? Props can make a big difference in pontoon speeds, I personally like four bladed props on pontoons. Lastly how much does the boat weigh? If it is real heavy it will not go as fast as a lighter model. I have a 1998 24 foot Crestliner pontoon with a 1986 Yamaha 115 and with clean toons in smooth water I have hit 31 mph on the gps at wot with two on board
Its a 73 johnson 115 with a 3 blade prop. not sure the pitch but im fairly sure it has been on the boat since new since they are off similar years. so im guessing that the pitch of the prop is probably appropriate to the application.
also the data plate states that it is rated for 4500 rpm so im guessing its around that at WOT
The toons are extremely dirty they are so coated in this muck it almost looks like it was coated intentionally. (kinda looks like faded white rhino lining) but it does flake off, the toons also have a few dents and repairs here and there but are totally functional. i pulled the plugs on them the other day aafter the initial purchase and found water in the right tube.
Though not knowing when the last time was that they were pulled i cant really say what kind of a leak i have i drained it into a trash can and estimated it was about 10 gallons. i pulled it today after two allday uses and didnt find a drop. Also on that note the plugs weren't even hand tight in fact im surprised they hadnt fallen out, so i wrapped them in teflon tape and reinstalled
