Does it matter what starter switch i replace on my toon? I dont have access to the switch because the boat is not local yet. I dont know how anything other than there are 6 wires on the switch. Is this called a "5 position" because one is a ground and not considered a "position" onthe switch?

My problem may be related to the kill circuit. I have no spark. when i got the boat, the power packs and relay were replaced. could the ignition switch be the problem? the black/yellow kill wire has another wire in the same plug to the power pack. i pulled it but, it did not spark again. i cannot disconnect just one of them since the plug has both wires in it. i just want to get spark to the plugs and i'm confident the engine will start. i have a manual but it is not clear what to do because it doesnt show locations of the components. just diagrams without pictures. i need to know how to trace from switch down the line or back from the starter i guess. i'm not real good at this stuff either. But locating the components (grounds,etc.) will help me.

You're asking the wrong iboaters. Have a mod move your question to the Johnnyrude section and you'll get an answer pronto. Good luck.

Look at the back of the switch. It will have the following letters by each terminal:

B = Battery = +12 volts from the engine wire harness.
C = Choke/Primer = +12 volts when kiey is pushed in while the switch is in RUN or START
A = Accessory = +12 volts when the key in RUN = powers instruments
S = Start = +12 volts to the starter solenoid when key is turned to START.
M = Magneto = kill circuit
M = Magneto = kill circuit

One of the "M" terminals may be labeled "I" which stands for ignition.

I've read in the OMC section that you can unplug the red controller to engine plug and jump across the starter, and the engine should run. You might have to choke it manually or shoot a little ready mix in the carb to get it going. Be prepeared to choke it out completely to shut it off, because you won't have any other way to stop it. There are literally dozens of no spark posts in the Johnny/Rude section, read a few of them and you will get started in the right direction.

I'm not trying to be a smart guy but if you don't know what I'm trying to tell you about in the paragraph above you should probably try to get a lot more info before you try to troubleshoot/repair your engine. You might do yourself more harm that good without even knowing it.

There are a lot of very knowledgable folks on that section who will help you with the specifics of your motor.

Merry Christmas, and good luck with your motor.:D
