I'm wiring a 24 volt system for my trolling motor and have a couple of questions. Should the trolling motor be the only thing wired to these batteries/24 volt system? Also, is the wiring system such that the positive of battery 1 and negative of battery 2 go to the trolling motor and the positive of battery 2 gets connected to the negative of battery 1? Please help. Thanks!

Silvertip, I have just read his other posts and i don't see any questions referring to 24v.

........... is the wiring system such that the positive of battery 1 and negative of battery 2 go to the trolling motor and the positive of battery 2 gets connected to the negative of battery 1? .........

Yes, that is how you make 24v from 2 x 12v batteries, it is called 'series'.

Re: 24 volt wiring clarification

Sorry. I responded to several 24 volt system questions in the last couple of days and I thought this was a double post. Here's the diagram for a typical 24 volt system.

Use this diagram if you want to power some 12 volt stuff from the 24 volt system.

Nice diagram!

Do you ever need to have a breaker between the two batteries? I may run 1 up front and one in back so don't know if I need a breaker in the series line as well.

Re: 24 volt wiring clarification

Since the ground side of the 24 volt circuit is isolated from the boat electrical system there is not much of a chance the positive side of the left side battery would chaff and come in contact with the hull (talking tin boat here). The only problem would be if the positive lead and ground lead shorted. Then the breaker would be a benefit. In your installation, for absolute protection it would be ok to do so.
