I had a 24v trolling motor on my boat and it was only a 36lb thrust. I recently got a 50lb minnkota and installed but its only a 12v. It feels like it doesnt go very fast on the fastest speed. Now... Where i hook up the cables to the battery there are 2 sets of wires. 2 poss. and 2 neg. because its a 24v system. Could this be my problem why my motor seems weak? Im putting both poss, and both neg wires on the battery. This is a 24v system, and my motor is only a 12v. How should i be hooking this up?

Thanks

You should only be using 12 volts. One battery at a time. I would think if you were running 24v thru the motor is may be running faster and burn out shortly.

If I may ..You could also run 1 pos. and 1 neg .lead from one of your batteries to your motor..and since you have the extra battery, hook it in parallel with the first giving you 12 volts D.C. with twice the running time.
