Right my 25 electric start evinrude 1998 wont start. The compression is 110psi on both cylinders both sparking and fuel is getting in. What else can it be? It just spins on the starter and occasionally back fires?

Did you check the flywheel to be sure that the key is not sheared?

If your spark will jump a 7/16 " open air gap, do what was said above.

Not necessarily! The flywheel key can shear and allow the flywheel to rotate around the shaft until the broken bits of metal from the key wedge in the taper thus causing the engine to turn over but be way out of time. It is worth a check.

Ah, the real question is, did you accidently reverse the plug wires? It happens a lot. The backfire usually gives it away.

Also would the compression not be affected? Its at 110 psi

Would the compression be effected by what? Flywheel key, no. Plug wires crossed, no. Kill switch, no.

Not one bit.

It's ignition timing, not cam timing.

Cam timing being off has the potential to change compression, but you don't have to worry about that issue with your 2-stroke.;)

If it's sheered, it will most likely be broken in half. One piece stuck in the crank, the other piece stuck in the flywheel.

Replacing the broken key will set the flywheel back where it's supposed to be to fire the ignition at the correct time.

Sounds like a fuel restriction somewhere. Check your gas tank, fuel lines etc. for obstructions. Filter could be plugged, or the carbs may be dirty.

Other problem is blot of white smoke which I think is due to water in the bore?

After you replaced the key, did you torque the flywheel nut down to the right specs??
