Re: 25 h.p. 3 cyl.

In general nothing wrong, but getting parts may be quite a problem. Was quite short lived in production.
Probably as heavy as a modern 4-stroke.
Was originally made as a 35HP, but a 25 version was made specially for the Italian market.
As the market collapsed in Italy, OMC did what they could to get rid of them elsewhere.
Called it for fun 'The V-3' as it looks more like 1/2 the V6 looper 60degree.
Same basic design.
The oil-mix system was a constant problem, leaking oil into the carbs when not used made it a bit difficult to start.

That was a super little mtr and ran very good BUT if you buy it take the complete oiling system off of it and mix your oil/gas 50:1. The oiling system on that mtr caused a lot of probs. Very simple to remove the orginal oil system. With the oiling system it had it would leak fuel into the oil tank and the next thing you had was three scored cyls. Still a good mtr.

What you end up doing is pull the oil tank and oil mixer off of it and doing a little fuel line plumbing so the fuel pumps just pump pre-mix fuel straight to the carbs by-passing any oiling system that was on it. If you are uncomfortable with this take it to a GOOD Evinrude dlr and have him do it. Don't forget to pre-mix the fuel before running after you have this done. You may want to look at BRPparts.com to get a better idea of what is on your mtr.

Re: 25 h.p. 3 cyl.

I just bought a 1998 last week, mounted on a 14'-6" side console Princecraft aluminum boat. It''s a Q model 25hp, long shaft all electric so it's the heaviest, around 170#, I think.

It is in very good condition, looking almost like new but it also has the oiling system removed. I was skeptical about that at first but the owner told me that oil had been leaking into the carbs during storage so the dealer recommended removing it and running on pre-mix, 50:1. I got all the receipts from the dealer regarding removal of the system and the cause of the problem.

Anyway, I tried it at the lake yesterday and it ran great. Instant starting, very quiet and extremely smooth. It shifted perfectly, idled great and moved the boat about 25mph with two of us aboard. I'm real happy with it so far.

Regarding removal, I'm not sure but you may have to do something with the alarm system to prevent a false low oil alarm. In this case, the dealer charged $136 to remove the tank and pump but also to clean oil out of the carbs and from inside the cover.

When you remove the oil tank and unplug the electrical connector going to it that should take care of the low oil alarm.

Being a new to you mtr it wouldn't hurt to put a water pump kit in it. Then you'll know for sure what you have.

Still one of the best smaller mtrs ever built but the "Bean Counters" at the old OMC decided it cost to much to produce a quality OB mtr.
