25 HP clanging

I have a 25 HP Mercury 2003. I had my trim tab jam into my propeller twice in the last few years and after loctiting the bolt in this last time I took off from the launch the m otor seized. I took the powerhead apart and found no damage and was able to work the motor free by hand. I started the motor up and it ran fine except for a clanging noise approximately where the powerhead meets the lower end. I shut the motor down until I can figure out what the problem is. The clanging is not methodical but random. Anyone have any ideas what happened? Is it possible a gear or shaft was damaged by the trim tab jamming in the prop? Thanks in advance for any and all help.
