Engine starts easy. Fule line bulb stays hard and squeezing it doesn't help. I can accelerate a little with no problem if I give it more throttle the engine just boggs down. I have cleaned the carb 3 times. Any ideas?

BruceG,

Do you have spark on both cylinders?

Yes there is spark on both cylinders. If I keep pulling the primer button rapidly it will run at much higher speed. It just doesn't seem to be getting enough gas. When I first try to accelerate it will speed up for a few seconds.

Bruce,

Did you rebuild the fuel pump?

You should at least check it's output by pulling off the discharge line while it is idling.

The fuel pump has been rebuilt once and tested several times. The tank and hose is new. The tank vent is open.

You must make sure the carb-to-ignition timing is correct. I forget the proper term for it. As you trottle-up the timing advances at the same time. There should be some marks on the cam that the roller indexes to just as the throttle opens. From what I remember, when you first start to give it throttle, the timing slightly advances first. Then a cam hits a roller that opens the throttle. This timing of this sequence is important. Adjust it like the book says. If you still get a little hesitation off idle, advance the timing on this setting a little. Like, make sure you get a little more timing advance before the throttle opens.

Good luck,
D. L.

I think that timing can be ruled out. There is a knob on the engine that you pull out to inject gas into the carb when you start cold. Each time you pull the knob it injects more gas. If I pull the knob repeatadly when I try to accelerate the engine will rev up ok. This tells me that I have a gas problem, I think. Any ideas?
