25 hp evinrude water out of exhaust

Hi, I have recently purchased an old 16' Kencraft well boat that has a 25hp Evinrude, with a 30hp Johnson power head. (I checked serial number on the power head) The manual start motor starts well and runs well. However there is water coming out of the exhaust ports (2 small holes on the back of the center section of the motor) while the motor is running. I found a small hole near the front of the shaft a couple of inches above the cavitation plate. Should this be there? Should I get water out of the exhaust? This is my first motor that didn't have through the hub (prop) exhaust. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to iboats.

The pump moves a lot of water. Way more than the motor needs. Excess is dumped off in various places. The water that ends-up going through the powerhead ends-up blowing out of the exhaust. If you have water out with the exhaust, water is circulating normally and abundantly.

Thanks for your post. That is good news. What about the hole in the center section above the cavitation plate. Should it be there? It isn't the water inlet. That is on the fin above the prop, and has a screen over it. I don't recall ever seeing a hole like this one on other engines. Does it hurt to have water in the center section? Thanks again for your time.
