25 hp johnson fuel mix 100/1 ?

i have a 1988 25 hp johnson i just got. the fuel mix on the tiller handle say's 100/1 i am wondering if this is right it won't start so i need to know fuel mix before trying to work on it.I have no spark on either spark plug wondering what i should do next thank you

The fuel mix was changed by letter from OMC sometime 1989 to 50/1, sticker should be removed.

Your motor needs the 50:1 mix. 100:1 was a bad idea from the get-go and OMC sent a service bulletin calling it back to 50:1. 100:1 didn't leave enough long-term protective film on the internals and motors were blowing up left and right...<br />- Scott

thanks for the reply guys just wanted to make sure now i still have that small problem about no spark where do you suggest i start do you suggest i have a multimeter and the manual but it's a little complicatd

the manual say's on some of the test to put the scale on " negative and 500" another test call for " s and 5 " i have a multimeter but i don't see any of those on there also where could i find a spark plug tester? thanks again

caldog,<br /><br />Any auto parts store will have a spark tester.<br /><br />Does your engine have a kill switch/lanyard? Is it connected?

well guys great success.Got a volt meter put it on the ohms scale and read between the 2 leads of the coil the manual say's it should read between 250-300 ohms one said 264 the other zero i had an old coil and the # matched also took continuity between both spark plug wires and nothing. so i redid the heads" of the spark plug and she started right up but had to shut her down there was no water coming out of the tellall.I almost feel like a certified mechanic "ya right" well thanks for the help guys and I'll keep you informed about checking out the water flow problem also what is that knob, it looks like a choke but when i pull it out it goes right back in it feel lik i am priming the carburator with this is that what i have to do pull back and forth to prime this i have never seen this

that knob i was talking about is attached to the float bowl and then to the top of the carburator i would just like to know how operate it thanks

well just tried to take off lower unit took the water screen off to loosen shift rod connector.Problem is when the lower unit drops the top nut "of the shift connector" gets stuck on te inside off the impeller housing the manual says it should just come off. My ? is does that nut slide down the shift rod i tried to turn it off but nothing

Hi caldog 101<br /><br />Behind the upper nut there is a little fiber retainerring. If you loosen and lift the upper nut, you can carefully remove the plastic retainerring and slidt the nut down. Now the shift rod can pass through waterpump.

thanks g dane it worked perfectly I had to crc the nut to finally push it up exposing the washer ,funny thing happened when i went to pull the impeller housing the whole drive shaft came up.So i got nervous and put the lower unit on again just to make sure it went in to gear and surprisingly it did i thought i screwed it up .Thanks for your help
