I'm considering buying a mid 70's modle 25 HP Johnson motor and will need to convert it into a short shaft.
Will a driveshaft from a 15 HP Johnson from the mid 70's work on the 25 HP?

Jerry

No.

Why buy an engine you must convert to make it usable, Jerry? It takes a lot more than a driveshaft. Check with tcoutboard.com for prices of used parts to convert.

Find a short shaft engine.

I spotted this recommendation from someone else while looking for details on converting a 9.9 longshaft to shortshaft. It doesn't cover your model exactly but it gives you a pretty good picture of everything you'll need to make the change. " http://www.sschapterpsa.com/" scroll down the page and there's some outboard motor stuff there including a link to the conversion info. Hope it helps.
