My friend found an '02 14' Carolina Skiff with an '02 25 Merc for a good price. It has a console and remote stuff, but it's a pull start motor. She wants to convert it to electric start because......well.....she's a girl.
I know right much about 25 Mercs, but I don't really know what's involved in doing this electric start thing. Is it a difficult project? About how much would it cost?
Thanks.

Re: 25 HP Merc electric start conversion........

She'd need an Electric Start kit (about $250), Transom Mounted Ignition Keyswitch (about $70) or a Tiller Handle Harness Button (about $40), and she'd want to add a Battery Charging Kit (about $58) and Lighting Coil (about $75). Let's not forget the Neutral Safety Switch Kit (about $40). It's not a hard job, but jumping between 4 different kits gets a bit frustrating at times. Three steps forward, two steps back...

You'd need to supply the serial number of the motor to get an exact list.

Thanks. Will she...I mean I....have to change the flywheel to one with gear teeth on it? What's a lighting coil?

The kit comes with a ring gear that attaches to her current flywheel.
