25 hp Mercury 4 stroke

I'm trying to drop the lower unit from my 25 merc. I've disconnected the retainer clip (there's an upper and lower), took off the trim tab and the nut inside and took off the 4 lower unit bolts. The lower unit drops a couple inches and won't come any further. What did i miss?

I thought that style engine had jam nuts on shift shaft

actually figured it out. had to move the clip towards the gear shift to release the rod that goes all the way up from the lower unit to the gear shift

Don't know if this is the right posting spot. Have Mercury 4 stroke 25 hp (2006) and just had carb re-built at boat yard when off the motor. Motor now does not idle reliably and I suspect I need to either adjust idle or mixture adjustment - ideas? mixture too rich? ....?
