25 hp Mercury parts compatibility

Hello again just a quick question I found a Parts motor for my 88 Mercury 25hp it needs a new crankshaft connecting rod and a piston, the motor I found is $150 1981 Mercury 25hp that still runsish... are they compatibile??

I just took look at some parts diagrams and yes it has a thermostat that apparently needs to be installed...never thought to check that when I got it

You need to find a parts block like yours one that has a thermostat. The 81 has different pistons that don't interchange with yours and no thermostat. Where are you located

Are you certain, I've looked at every set of serial numbers's parts list they all list the same part numbers for the comments I need.

I'm sorry your correct thank you for your help I was looking at the wrong parts list, I need to find a newer one by a few years it looks like I could use the crankshaft but not the rods or Pistons

Find one that has the thermostat should start about 1985/86 1987for sure up to about 1993. Mercosil parts also cannot be used in your motor.
