I guess I trouble shooted the problem, and fixed it, but now I was hoping the iboats' minds could help me to prevent this from happening again.
My engine would not start at the dock. This motor has the hand primer, and it just didn't sound like gas was pumping in with the strokes. I pulled the line off the intake behind the carb, and sure enough, no gas. When I returned home I started pulling fuel lines off and checking how far the fuel was going. I had fuel to the carb. I removed the carb, and took it to my work bench for teardown. It didn't take long to realize that the needle/seat was stuck closed. There was a dark stain in the bowl. When I removed the neede/seat, there did not appear to be any noticable wear. I cleaned everything w/carb cleaner, all the passages and the bowl. I reinstalled everything, and checked the proper float height. I refitted the carbuetor, mounted my muffs on my motor for a trial. The engine started, and appears to run like it should. Could someone please tell me why the needle stuck to the carb seat. I use Shell regular grade gas with Evinrude oil with Sea Foam added per specs.
