Looking at a 1964 Lund 14' open fishing boat with an older 25 hp tiller Yamaha 2 stroke. Is this too much motor for this boat?

Is there a rating plate on the boat anywhere? If not, call Lund...they will tell you the max rating.

Also, my lund laker 14 foot is rated for 35 HP. I'm pretty sure that mine is a lot beefier boat however...give Lund a call!

i wouldn't think so but remember what ever the hp rating on your boat is it was before outboard manufactureres changed hp ratings in the mid 80's. you should go over to the outboard forum and check but i think there is about a 15% difference between prop (new measurement) and powerhead (old measurement). so if your boat was rated for 25hp in 1964 it would only be rated for about a 20hp today. also you should check the transom on a boat that old to make sure it is as sound as it was in 1964 (or replace it so it is) before going to max hp rating.
