Max h.p. for the boat is 15hp I only have the 25hp to use now. What are my worries in using the 25hp motor?

Overpowering a boat can cause unpredictable, dangerous handling. The extra weight and thrust exceeds the manufacturer's design limits and makes for a very unsafe vehicle. In some areas I believe it is even illegal. Not to mention liability if you are involved in an accident. If you really want to run it, it is up to you. (Obviously I would advise against it.)

Do you have any Idea how much more the 25 hp would weigh vs. the 15hp?

What are you concered about? The power/speed or the weight? You can always adjust the power/speed trough the tiller handle. The weight is there. If you put more weigth in front and keep it safe you'd be fine.
That will get you out on the water anyways.

"a 12' johnboat flatbottom"
Can't see it from here, but if you don't run it @ wot you don't use the 25 hp. Less stress on the transom. Water in the boat when you stop? You sound like a safe boater to me. Just take it easy and learn how it reacts. If you really want to be safe do as Fouled Plug told you.

To sell the 25 hp and by another 15 hp can't be too hard, right? Sorry about the stolen 15 hp btw. I know how that feels

I just thought you want to get out on the water really soon. You can if you are careful.

Just got in from the lake. That 25 hp evinrude is not what I was looking for! I thought I had a rocket strapped to my a##!!! Looks like im going to have to find another 15 hp. I'll tell you though, that was a real rush in a 12' flatbottom john boat! WOW!!

Suzuki40

I ran a 25 HP on my 12' Klamath for along time.
My Klamath is a V-hull and will handle the HP better than your 12' flat bottom.
Your transom will not rip off. The transom on Klamath was severely weakened by backing down a hill and the skeg catching the pavement. It pulled the transom down quite a ways. I ran it for years like that (sure I was a little nervous) and it done fine.
Just go slow until you get used to it.
I would get a new/used 14' aluminum semi v hull boat to put that 25 HP on instead of selling it and going down in power unless your 25 horse outboard is real old.

Jay Williams,
It is an 85' evinrude 25 h.p. It is clean and runs great and starts on first pull. as you read in my post before this on. It hauls a## on my 12' john. Its just a little too hair of a ride for me. Im the kind of person that would run it wot all the time and I know what the outcome would be shortly afterwards.

Suzuki40

Hey Bear,
I took it out on the water and just tooled around a bit. I powered up a little and the excelleration was great. I was running around half throttle or so and cranked it up wot. It was VERY cool, but unsafe for sure. I would guess it ran about 40 mph? I dont know for sure, I do know that you had better be careful turning it around corners.

Suzuki40

My advice to you is to sell the boat and keep the 25. You will find that it is more costly to replace the 15 than it is to buy a 14 or 16ft flat bottom. You will be happier with the extra room you have too.
